Current research interests

I am an MD/PhD student completing my graduate school years in the Advanced Ocular Imaging Program emphasizing medical imaging.  I am currently working on characterizing Retinitis Pigmentosa and Usher’s Syndrome using Adaptive Optics imaging.  My project involves analyzing photoreceptor structure to define retinal changes that occur during the progress of these degenerative diseases.  Additionally I am working on developing an animal imaging system to explore these disease states in other species.

Education

Undergraduate: BS, Marquette University
Graduate: Medical College of Wisconsin (First year graduate student)
Medical school: Medical College of Wisconsin (Third year medical student)

Brief Biographical Information

I completed my undergraduate training in physics at Marquette University in 2010. I then came to MCW joining the Medical Scientist Training Program to pursue both an MD and PhD degree. After doing research in functional MRI brain imaging as an undergraduate and during research rotations at MCW, I came to the AOIP lab for a research rotation to gain experience with a different kind of medical imaging. I found I was interested in continuing to work with optical imaging during my rotation in the lab and joined the group in the summer of 2012 to do my graduate work.

My favorite structure in the eye

Photoreceptors, retinal pigment epithelium
