Dr. Shelov sidelights

Although being named Medical College of Wisconsin Alumnus of the Year is the most recent honor for Steven P. Shelov, MD ’71, it is certainly not the first. Dr. Shelov has earned the respect of patients, peers and the public during his three plus decades in academic medicine. Here are a few select accolades:

• Graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from The Medical College of Wisconsin
• Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics; 1977-present
• Elected by medical students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine to the Davidoff Society (honorary society for excellence in teaching); 1985-1997
• Selection to the Physicians Health Leadership Committee (one of 18 physicians chosen to advise President William Clinton on Health Reform Policy); 1993
• The George M. Armstrong Award of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association, now the Academic Pediatric Association, its highest award of achievement in the field of child health; 1996
• Outstanding Teacher Award, Department of Pediatrics, Maimonides Medical Center; 1998
• Lifetime Education Achievement Award in Pediatric Education from the American Academy of Pediatrics; 2002
• Holroyd Sherry Award for Outstanding Contributions in the field of Children, Adolescents and the Media from the American Academy of Pediatrics; 2004
• Diploma of Achievement in Medicine and Healthcare Award from the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England; 2005
