Anesthesiology Physician Scientist Development Program

The Anesthesiology Physician Scientist Development Program (APSDP) is a post graduate training program designed to develop exceptional clinicians and scholars. The Medical College of Wisconsin provides an outstanding pathway for the development of leaders in Anesthesiology through the combination of a rigorous clinical training program and focused research. The APSDP program is designed to enhance the career development of future physician scientists who are clinically skilled and able to conduct state-of-the-art research.

The Program is designed to attract graduating medical students already having a strong background in research that aspire to be academic faculty poised to conduct basic and translational research examining the clinical benefit of discovery made in the laboratory.

Benefits of the Program:

  • A clinical training program (residency-fellowship) that is individualized and allows for maximum flexibility in scheduling to enable the conduct of research during residency training
  • Integration of clinical and research activities
  • Opportunities for research outside the Anesthesiology Department.
  • Cumulative time spent in research is one or more years
  • Research stipend with supplement provided for each year of integrated research fellowship
  • Provision of annual academic allowance for travel to meetings and to fund training–related expenses
  • Availability of coursework in related disciplines
  • Mentorship to enhance the transition from trainee to independent investigator
