Neuroimaging research on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) at MCW is performed in collaboration with Michael McCrea, PhD, who is a Professor of Neurosurgery and a globally recognized researcher in acute and chronic effects of TBI. Faculty members in the Center for Imaging Research collaborate with Dr. McCrea in developing new tools for assessing the effects of TBI. In particular, the group is exploring a neuroimaging biomarker that can provide assessments of the acute and recovery phases of TBI. Imaging laboratories in the CIR that are performing this work include the Li Laboratory (resting-state fMRI biomarker), Muftuler Laboratory (diffusion-based biomarker), Nencka Laboratory (echo-planar imaging technology development, including simultaneous multi-slice imaging), Koch Laboratory (susceptibility-based biomarker), and Wang Laboratory (cerebral blood flow and cerebrovascular reactivity biomarker).
