Dr. Camitta joined MCW over 40 years ago after completing medical school at John’s Hopkins University and his medical training at Harvard University/Boston Children’s Hospital. During his time at Children’s, Dr. Camitta was section chief of Hematology-Oncology-Transplantation for 20 years and head of the Acute Lymphocytic leukemia Committee of the Pediatric Oncology Group (POG) and Children’s Oncology Group (COG) for 10 years. Dr. Camitta's expertise in Severe Aplastic Anemia is recognized worldwide and is a major reason we are a national referral center for this disease.
Dr. Camitta pioneered the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at CHW in 1978 and led the pediatric subcommittee of the International Bone Marrow Transplantation Registry (IBMTR) for 13 years. Dr. Camitta has chaired multiple significant data safety monitoring boards and is currently chair of the DSMB for the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. He has collaborated with laboratory and clinical peers resulting in more than 250 manuscripts.
