This past fall, the Department of Surgery initiated an MCW interdepartmental radio program called “The Word on Medicine: Knowledge Changing Life”, hosted by Dr. Douglas Evans and Dr. Rana Higgins, and generously supported by the Selig leasing Co. The goal of the program is to highlight MCW’s innovation and discovery and each show features a panel of content experts on a pre-determined topic, including a program chair, other medical professionals with a high-level of interest in the area, and patients to provide critical perspective. Past topics have included Breast Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer, the Cardiac Program, and the Trauma Response to Mass Casualty. The next show will air this afternoon at 4pm. It is focused on Colon Cancer, prevention and screening, and treatments. Panelists include Dr. Carrie Peterson (Surgery), Dr. Tim Ridolfi (Surgery), Dr. Peter Eichenseer (Gastroenterology), Dr. William Hall (Radiation Oncology), Dr. James Thomas (Medical Oncology), and Janice Erby (Wound Ostomy Nurse). You can listen to the show at 4 p.m. on 1130 AM WISN or live-stream from their website or through the iHeartRadio app. Please tune in to learn more about the radio program, exciting breakthroughs in this field, and to support our colleagues. If you are unable to listen this afternoon, podcasts of previously aired shows are available on the Word on Medicine’s iHeartRadio channel.
