Thoracic Surgery 6-Year Integrated Training Program - Hospital Affiliates

Froedtert Hospital is a 500 bed tertiary care academic medical center and the primary teaching affiliate of the Medical College of Wisconsin. It is staffed by faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin and is located on the same campus as the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. It serves as an eastern Wisconsin referral center for advanced medical practice care in 37 specialties and subspecialties. It is a major training and research facility with more than 1,000 medical, nursing and health technical students in training and over 2,000 active clinical trials each year. Froedtert operates the region’s only adult Level I Trauma Center and houses the Cancer Center, the only academic-based cancer research and patient care group in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is the primary pediatric hospital affiliate of the Medical College of Wisconsin. It is the only hospital in Wisconsin dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children and is the only Level I Trauma Center in the region that cares exclusively for children. Children’s Hospital currently has 222 beds including a PICU, NICU, and a HemOnc/ Transplant Unit with plans on expansion. In February 2009, Parents rated Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin third in the nation in its Best Children’s Hospital survey. In addition, Children’s Hospital earned top-10 ratings in five specialty areas including the Herma Heart Center which is rated among the top cardiac care centers in the nation for congenital heart disease.

Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center has been a major teaching hospital affiliate of the Medical College of Wisconsin since 1946. It is part of VISN 12 which also includes facilities in Iron Mountain, MI, Tomah, WI, Madison, WI, and North Chicago. All physicians who staff the hospital are full-time Medical College of Wisconsin faculty. The Medical Center delivers primary, secondary, and tertiary medical care in 170 acute care beds and provides over 500,000 visits annually through an extensive outpatient programs. It is one of the busiest medical centers operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs and provides many of the special programs offered in the VISN including cardiac surgery and comprehensive cancer care.
