Current research initiatives include community-based interventions to ensure underserved children have equal access to quality and culturally appropriate health care.


Community Health Improvement in Milwaukee's Children (CHIMC) is a grant aimed at identifying and addressing the main child health issue within each of the two communities. The CHIMC grant is a collaborative partnership between residents, community agencies, and academic institutions.

Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read – Milwaukee (ROR-M) Children’s earliest literacy begins at home with their families. The links between literacy and poverty are well documented. Reach Out and Read is a national program that improves language development in children.

Reducing Health Disparities

Examination of health disparities is conducted by analyzing large databases, e.g. examining the National Survey of Children’s Health, in birth outcomes adjusting for age, race/ethnicity, education attainment, households’ income levels, marital status, access to primary care physicians, neighborhood factors etc.

Faculty Publications

Faculty and fellows in the Center have published articles in the area of health literacy, graduate medical education, health disparities, asthma, oral health access, health care coverage and community-academic partnerships.
