Hongjun He, Ph.D., Research Scientist I
Dr. Thomas Zahrt Laboratory

Degree - Ph.D. in Microbiology

Joined MCW in 2003

What brought you to MCW?
I joined MCW mainly because of interesting research projects.  I joined Dr. Zahrt's lab in January, 2003 as a post-doc, and have been a Research Scientist since April, 2009.

What are you working on now?
I am working on the regulation of Rv0081-Rv0088 locus encoding components of formate hydrogenlyase in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.  This locus is controlled by three transcriptional regulators with their DNA binding motifs overlapped.  Genetic and biochemical approaches are used in this project.

Favorite thing about your position?
I like to try new techniques in research, and interact with my co-workers.

Hobbies and outside of work interests?
I love classical music, although I do not know much about it.  In addition, I like to go fishing in the summer.

Interesting "Fun Fact"?
I was an entomologist and worked on cotton insect control for years.  Eventually, I switched to Microbiology.
