Degree - B.S. in Biochemistry, Minor in Biology
Joined MCW in July, 2006
What brought you to MCW? I came to MCW to start my Ph.D. training in the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences because the faculty and campus had a lot to offer. I also have a significant amount of family in the area and I'd never lived in a place with seasons or significant snowfall.
What are your current responsibilities? Currently, I am working on my last project in the lab concerning localization of our Type III secreted toxin from Pseudomonas aeruginosa ExoU. I will be wrapping up science soon to work on writing my thesis for a defense in March, 2012.
Favorite thing about your position? I really enjoy the people I work with and the level of collaboration here at MCW. For the most part, there are no restrictions on the science I can perform which helps for learning and publishing purposes.
Hobbies and outside of work interests? I definitely am a fan of the outdoors here in Milwaukee and you could probably find me out running, biking, playing softball and sand volleyball. I also enjoy cooking, baking, and crocheting.
Interesting "Fun Fact"? I usually go by a shortened first name, Katie, and although not spelled the same, I am Katie from Katy, Texas.
