The Department of Dermatology offers a broad range of clinical services in the diagnosis and management of skin diseases. The faculty have expertise in immune mediated and blistering skin diseases, psoriasis, eczema, drug reactions, and skin cancer. Standard interventions include medical therapy, dermatologic surgery, phototherapy, and laser procedures.
The Inpatient Dermatology unit at Froedtert Hospital is the only unit in Southeastern Wisconsin specifically designed for inpatient therapy of patients with extensive skin diseases. Special rooms for soaking and debriding skin are staffed by nursing personnel with specialized training in the care of dermatology patients.
The Phototherapy Unit is located at the MCW Clinic at Froedtert. Treatment of all ultraviolet light-responsive disorders (i.e. psoriasis, vitiligo, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and eczema) is provided in this unit. Treatment with UVA light in conjunction with the drug Psoralen as well as narrow-band UVB light is available. Accelerated ultraviolet dosing schedules are also offered for optimal treatment of severe dermatoses.
