Diversity Programs

-- Summer Enrichment -- APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Chart a new course

Encouraging young people from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in science is a national priority, and the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is committed to meeting this goal in our recruitment and admissions practices.

Several enrichment programs are offered to help historically underrepresented local high school, resident and non-resident college level students jump-start their exposure and develop a broad perspective about the array of careers available within biomedical research, medicine and allied health. Our hope is that this early exposure will ultimately lead to an increase in the number of graduates having diverse perspectives in medical education.

StEP Into Your Future...

The Student Enrichment Program for Underrepresented Professions (URM) at the Medical College of Wisconsin is designed to bring opportunities to middle, high school, and college students in the Milwaukee area who are interested in careers in medicine and the sciences. Funded by the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin (AHW) Endowment, the program aims to increase access and retention in medical and graduate school among students underrepresented in medicine and contribute to resolving health disparities in Wisconsin.

Our URM target population includes individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, individuals with disabilities, and underrepresented cultural and ethnic groups including African Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (American Indian and Alaska Native), Hmong, and Mainland Puerto Rican.
