Aural Rehabilitation

Aural Rehabilitation

Aural rehabilitation is a program provided for patients who use hearing aids. The program is designed to help patients improve their ability to communicate effectively with their hearing aids during activities of daily living. Services provided are with a licensed/certified speech-language pathologist. An initial evaluation is provided in preparation of an individualized program. Services are intended to enhance the benefit of hearing aid use and optimize patient satisfaction with their hearing aids. Additionally, services will include discussion of a patient’s hearing loss and appropriated expectations for hearing aid use, outlining strategies to improve hearing and communication. A spouse or significant other is encouraged to attend sessions, as well as other family members. Many patients will benefit from just one session, however in some cases additional sessions may be appropriate and recommended.
