Otology and Neuro-Otologic Skull Base Surgery

Welcome to our subspecialty of Otology and Neuro-Otologic Skull Base Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This subspecialty focuses on diseases that occur in and around the temporal bone. This part of the skull and cranial base contains organs of hearing and balance and the nerve that moves your face: the facial nerve. Some of our specialized programs include the Koss Cochlear Implant Program for severe to profound hearing loss and the Acoustic Neuroma Program for skull base tumors. We also have specialized programs for evaluating and treating vestibular disorders (dizziness), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and all other forms of hearing loss. We also treat chronic ear disease such as cholesteatoma.  Due to the nature of these disease and disorders, we maintain close multidisciplinary collaborations with neurosurgery, neurology, radiology, audiology, nursing, and physical/occupational therapy.

David R. Friedland, MD, PhD leads the division of Otology and Neuro-Otologic Skull Base Surgery.  He provides both medical and surgical care at Froedtert Hospital and the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
