He was in the private practice of otolaryngology in Milwaukee for 17 years before accepting a full-time faculty position at MCW in 1990. He practices part-time at Froedtert Hospital and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin dealing mainly with ear, nose and throat problems in cleft palate children. In addition to his teaching of residents and medical students, he performs a number of administrative and academic functions at MCW. He is Associate Residency Program Director for Otolaryngology. He is a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army and served as an otolaryngologist during the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars, respectively. Dr. Kidder's practice style is based on two principles: (1) a careful assessment of the patient's problem, based on listening to the patient, and (2) an explanation of the diagnosis and treatment options in terms the patient can understand. His main professional interests include: general ear, nose and throat disorders; swallowing problems; ENT problems in the developmentally disabled; medical-legal cases; and, the education of medical students, residents, primary care physicians, allied health professionals and the public in health and medical issues related to otolaryngology.
