Research Interests
- Superoxide generation from eNOS
- Regulation of NO production in the heart
- Tetrahydrobiopterin in fetal brain development
Research Support
- Superoxide Generation from eNOS: The Role of Pterins is a four-year first renewal, $1.2 million award from the National Institute of Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to study the molecular mechanisms causing loss of NO production in the endothelium in conditions associated with increased lipid peroxidation.
- Tetrahydrobiopterin in Hypoxia-Ischemia Induced Fetal Brain Dysfunction is an R21, $375,000 award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to study the link between hypoxia-ischemia or low oxygen supply and loss of tetrahydrobiopterin in the immature brain. Tetrahydrobiopterin is a key compound regulating several brain functions. This study will generate important information regarding the application of tetrahydrobiopterin in preventing fetal brain damage.
