Research Interest: Overall research interest is in the area of oxidative and nitrosative stress in disease. This includes the application of electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy with or without spin-trapping techniques. The specific current interest is in the area of oxidant-sensitive transcription factor regulation of genes in: cardiac and renal transplant rejection; nuclear factor kappa B and iNOS gene expression in the development of hyperglycemia in a genetic onset model of type I diabetes mellitus; role of oxidative stress in endothelial cell dysfunction in diabetes mellitus; mechanisms of human endothelial cell activation and cell adhesion by HIV-1 viral Tat protein.
