Research Interests: Signal transduction in microvascular endothelium and cardiac tissues in human disease
Oxy and nitrogen radicals play a critical role in endothelial and vascular smooth muscle signal transduction. Our research has focused on the characterization of cytosolic and nuclear signaling cascades (i.e. MAPK, JNK, NFAT, AP-1 and NFkB) in human and animal endothelial and smooth muscle cells activated by inflammatory and angiogenic stimuli. We have also been particularly interested in the effects of immunosuppressive medications on the endothelial activation pathways, which may ultimately underlie chronic graft rejection, and vascular dysfunction in the setting of organ transplantation.
