NIH Transitioning Multi-Project Applications to Electronic Submission Using ASSIST System
The NIH has developed an electronic application system for multi-project applications. ASSIST (Application Submission System and Interface for Submission Tracking) is a web-based system designed to accommodate the complexities of NIH’s multi-project applications. It provides pre-population of application forms using information from NIH’s eRA Commons, accommodates multiple people working on an application concurrently, and provides the capability for the signing official from the applicant organization to control access to various parts of the application. ASSIST allows users to view the assembled application before submission the same way it will be seen by NIH reviewers and allows for an application to be run against NIH and Grants.gov validations before submission to catch any warnings or errors.
Electronic submission using the ASSIST system will be required for all P01, P20, P50 and U19 applications intended for due dates on or after September 25, 2013. ASSIST will be required for P30, U10, U54, and additional activity codes for due dates on or after January 25, 2014. If you intend to submit a multi-project application for one of these activity codes for the January 25th deadline, contact the GCO staff member who supports your department as soon as possible. Resource materials will be available on the GCO website in late October to provide guidance on using ASSIST.
When an MCW PI is applying for a multi-project application using ASSIST, applications will still be submitted to the MCW GCO using paper registration forms, not eBridge. The ASSIST application should be completed and a printed copy included with the forms to the GCO.
If you are participating on another institution’s ASSIST project and MCW will be a subcontract site, submit an eBridge Funding Proposal for a new Federal Pass-through.
