NIH Transitioning Multi-Project Applications to Electronic Submission Using ASSIST System
The NIH has developed an electronic application system for multi-project applications. ASSIST (Application Submission System and Interface for Submission Tracking) is a web-based system designed to accommodate the complexities of NIH’s multi-project applications. It provides pre-population of application forms using information from NIH’s eRA Commons, accommodates multiple people working on an application concurrently, and provides the capability for the signing official from the applicant organization to control access to various parts of the application. ASSIST allows users to view the assembled application before submission the same way it will be seen by NIH reviewers and allows for an application to be run against NIH and Grants.gov validations before submission to catch any warnings or errors.
Electronic submission using the ASSIST system was required for all P01, P20, P50 and U19 applications intended for due dates on or after September 25, 2013. ASSIST is required for all other multi-project funding mechanisms, including P30, U10, etc., beginning with application due dates on or after January 25, 2014.
If you intend to submit a multi-project application for the January 25th deadline, contact the GCO staff member who supports your department as soon as possible. If you are participating in an application that another institution is submitting using ASSIST (a federal pass-through), also contact the GCO.
