Institutional Policy

FTEE COMMITMENT TO DIRECT AND COORDINATE GME PROGRAMS

  • The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires that every accredited program have a Program Director.
  • The Program Director must be a full-time faculty member of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
  • During certain times of the year the Program Director has greater GME program related responsibilities than at other times.
  • Some programs may utilize a GME Program Manager to perform some of the administrative functions.
  • Every Program Director and Coordinator must devote sufficient time to activities necessary to meet the requirements for maintaining a fully accredited GME program.
  • The programs must meet the program specific RRC requirements, regarding the time commitment of the Program Director. For the rest, MCWAH recommends that a minimum level of support for Program Directors be at 10 percent of salary and administrative assistance support at a minimum of 0.2 FTE; programs may require significantly more support in salary, program manager and administrative assistance.
  • It is expected that the GME funds given to the MCW departments by the MCWAH hospitals will be utilized to pay for the FTEEs necessary for administration of GME.
  • MCWAH will monitor and ensure that all of the ACGME requirements are met fully in a timely fashion.

This policy was approved by the MCWAH Graduate Medical Education Council on  April 19, 2004.
