Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals, Inc.
It is the policy of the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (MCWAH) that all intellectual property created by the housestaff during the course of their residency or fellowship training be reported and assigned to the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), a not-for-profit Wisconsin Corporation organized for educational and charitable purposes.
Examples of intellectual property covered by this policy are any inventions, discoveries or writings that may be the subject of patent, trade secret, copyright or trademark protection. Housestaff who create intellectual property participate with MCW in any income that might be obtained in the licensing or sale of such property. If MCW elects not to pursue protection of this intellectual property, then the rights to that property shall be returned to the creator to use as he or she sees fit.
An exception to this policy is intellectual property that is both unrelated to the housestaff member's training program and created without use of MCWAH or MCW resources or personnel; MCWAH or MCW does not claim ownership of this intellectual property.
This revised policy was approved by the MCWAH Graduate Medical Education Council on November 18, 2013. The original policy was approved by the MCWAH Program Directors on August 16, 1999.
