Assistant Professor of Medicine
2011 MCW Alumni
"As an assistant professor and new faculty member at MCW, my goal was to develop a research program focusing on acute kidney injury. My clinical training in internal medicine and nephrology at the Mayo Clinic, as well as my interest in translating research discoveries from the laboratory to clinical medicine, required the acquisition of several skills necessary for the development of a successful translational research program. It was then that I applied to the MCW graduate program in Clinical and Translational Science.
This program provided me with the unique opportunity to learn from and collaborate with instructors and students from diverse professional backgrounds. Due to the rapid expansion of biomedical research, the requirement to work with investigators from divergent disciplines was critical. The graduate program at MCW provided the curriculum to make that possible, including the flexibility to individualize my coursework and to tailor it to fit the role of industry. The graduate program was vital to this success: it made it possible for me to compete successfully for research funding from the National Institutes of Health and develop collaborations with investigators outside my field. Not only did MCW give me the material for success, it gave me the means to achieve it."
