Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE)
The Program for Undergraduate Research (PURE) offered through the MCW Graduate School is a non-paid, internship-based program for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited college/university. Applicants to PURE who are chosen for the program will be placed with a MCW faculty mentor who will provide varying levels of research experience. PURE is only offered during the academic year (fall and spring semesters as well as winter quarters / j-terms).
In addition to the online application, PURE applicants must submit two (2) letters of recommendation and official transcript(s) from their current, as well as any previously attended, college/university. It is preferred that letters of recommendation come from current or previous college professors, advisors, tutors, etc. Preference is given to those applicants with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Participation is PURE is contingent upon the applicant being able to apply their experience to course credit completion or towards their general degree attainment. Applicants may be interviewed as part of the application process. If chosen for PURE, applicants must successfully pass a background check. The length of time that an applicant starts and completes the program is based off of the student's college/university semester/term for which they are applying to PURE for.
Participants are expected to devote a minimum of 8 hours each week to their faculty mentor for the duration of their participation in the program. A weekly schedule will be determined and agreed upon between the faculty mentor and the participating student.
Below is a list of faculty members who have hosted PURE students in the past. Applicants are encouraged to research, and reach out to, potential faculty mentors prior to and during their PURE applicaiton process. Otherwise, submitted applications are provided to the faculty members listed on the online application for review and consideration.
