Research Interests

For over twenty-five years Dr. Kissebah’s research has focused on investigating the biology of body fat distribution and metabolic syndrome, an important risk profile for cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes. Over the past ten years our efforts have focused on the genetic causes of this common and costly health disorder.

A recent publication has identified the most significant QTL (Quantitative Trait Locus) predisposing to the fundamental features of the syndrome. We are now proceeding towards identification of positional candidate genes, their polymorphisms and tissue expression in relationship to the biology of this syndrome.
