Bioethics Consulting Service

The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities has established and staffs a clinical consultation service for hospitals and health care institutions in the Milwaukee area. This service provides bioethics advice at the bedside at the request of individual clinicians. In addition, the Center’s Midwest Ethics Committee Network provides assistance to ethics committees and ethics consultants through the region to facilitate resolution of bioethical dilemmas that arise in their own institutions. The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities also provides consultation with state and federal government leaders including review of proposed state legislation on bioethics issues. The Center also works in concert with national bioethics and specialty professional organizations, including the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities, the American Medical Association and the American Bar Association, to evaluate emerging bioethics issues and make recommendations for the development of public policy and professional standards.
