Apr 12 - Stefan Schieke, MD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), has received the Medical Dermatology Career Development Award from the Dermatology Foundation. He is the first dermatologist from MCW and one of two faculty members in the U.S. to be selected in this category for the prestigious award of the Dermatology Foundation in 2013.
Mar 25 - Beth A. Drolet, MD, Professor of Dermatology, and Dawn Siegel, MD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology, were one of four teams that won a Platinum Award in the Assay Depot and Rare Genomics Institute Rare Disease Science Challenge.
Nov. 15 - A Medical College of Wisconsin dermatologist studying new agents to stop the spread of melanoma has received a $75,000 donation from Ann’s Hope Foundation to advance his research.
Oct. 05 - The Medical College’s Pediatric Dermatology section hosted a successful conference earlier this summer for families with children affected by PHACE Syndrome. The conference was attended by 25 families from across North America (attendees were from 15 states and Canada), who had the opportunity to hear presentations on PHACE Syndrome from pediatric subspecialists, network with physicians and other families impacted by the syndrome, and participate in several ongoing clinical and translational research projects based at MCW.
Commencement was held for graduates of The Medical College of Wisconsin on May 20, 2011, at the Milwaukee Theatre. A total of 275 degrees were awarded to students of the Medical School and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, consisting of 206 MD, 21 PhD, 25 MS, 12 MA, and 11 MPH degrees.
The 99th annual commencement took place on May 18 at the Milwaukee Theatre, at which the Medical College of Wisconsin and its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences awarded 202 MD, 38 PhD, 27 MS, 4 MA, and 18 Master of Public Health degrees, as well as bestowed numerous honors.
Dr. Daniel McDermott has dedicated his career to the development of new drugs and study of their safety and efficacy in patient populations. His remarkable body of work led to his selection as the Medical College’s very first Graduate School Alumnus of the Year.
Dermatologist and Alumni Association President Dr. Kathleen Stokes encourages alumni to follow her example and discover an opportunity to lead in service of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Graduating medical students were matched to their residency positions via the National Residency Matching Program on March 16. Of the 202 fourth-year medical students at the Medical College, 196 students obtained first-year residency positions on Match Day.
June 20 - The Medical College of Wisconsin received a two-year, $200,000 grant from the National Psoriasis Foundation to study the pathogenesis of psoriasis and to identify new drugs that may benefit patients.
