Dr. Philip Clifford and team win AAMC innovation award for career planning tool for scientists

Aug 30 - Philip Clifford PhD, Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and colleagues from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the University of California San Francisco, won the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Award for Innovative Institutional Partnerships in Research and Research-focused Training for an interactive career planning tool they developed.

Graduates begin next adventure

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s annual commencement exercises were held May 17 at the Milwaukee Theatre. During the ceremony, the Medical College and its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences awarded 194 MD, 40 PhD, 23 MS, eight MA, and 16 Master of Public Health degrees.

PT leader brings diversity to health fields

Recognizing the need for greater diversity in his field of physical therapy, Dr. Lawrence Pan launched programs at Marquette University, where he is a department chairman, that have helped scores of underrepresented students find success in scientific careers. For his efforts, Dr. Pan has been named the 2013 Graduate School Alumnus of the Year.

05.04 - Dr. Ravi Misra named Dean of Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

The Medical College of Wisconsin has named Ravi P. Misra, PhD, Professor of Biochemistry at the Medical College, as Dean of the College’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Misra’s appointment was announced by T. Michael Bolger, JD, President and CEO. Dr. Misra assumed his new position on May 1.

07.14 -NIH grant supports Milwaukee-wide research partnership

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced today it has awarded a $20 million grant to The Medical College of Wisconsin, representing a consortium of eight Milwaukee institutions to create a Milwaukee-wide research partnership that shares a common vision, resources and staff to advance biomedical research, patient care and education.

Governor’s Budget Includes Funds for Community-Based Medical Education Programs

Feb. 27 - Governor Scott Walker’s proposed budget includes $7.4 million in bonding for MCW’s community-based medical education campuses in Central Wisconsin and Green Bay and $1.75 million to expand MCW’s family and community medicine residency program by 12 slots. Congratulations to the Class of 2012

The 99th annual commencement took place on May 18 at the Milwaukee Theatre, at which the Medical College of Wisconsin and its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences awarded 202 MD, 38 PhD, 27 MS, 4 MA, and 18 Master of Public Health degrees, as well as bestowed numerous honors.
