June 29 - Nathan Ledeboer, PhD, (Pathology) tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that bacteria-killing light fixtures could be an important advance. May 19 - The MCW named Dr. Hallgeir Rui as Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse Professor of Breast Cancer Research and the MCW Cancer Center’s Associate Director of Basic Research. He comes to MCW from Thomas Jefferson University where he was Vice Chair of Cancer Biology and Scientific Director of the Jefferson Breast Care Center at the Kimmel Cancer Center. Wauwatosa Now
May 7 - Urias Almagro, MD, a member of the MCW Pathology faculty from 1979 to 2005, died May 3. He was 71 years old.
Apr. 14 - Medical Laboratory Observer named Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin as 2015 Lab of the Year. Dr. Jason Jarzembowski (Pathology - Interim Medical Director of the CHW Lab) said the Lab is committed to “maintaining quality while being cost-effective. Mar. 2 - Dr. William See (Urology) and Dr. Liang Wang (Pathology) provide expert comment to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article on liquid biopsies. Dr. Wang has been researching two different methods of liquid biopsy, one using DNA circulating in the bloodstream, the other using RNA embedded in vesicles, tiny membranes released by cells. Oct. 13 - A collaborative team of researchers from BloodCenter of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) has received a one-year, $50,000 grant from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin (CTSI) to study the effects of platelet transfusion on newborns whose medical conditions require the procedure.
Oct. 8 - Jerome Gottschall, MD, Professor of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Senior Medical Director at the BloodCenter of Wisconsin and Medical Director of Transfusion Services at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Froedtert Hospital, received a lifetime achievement award from the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
