The Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University jointly offer a PhD program in Functional Imaging, which integrates experience in biomedical science and applied engineering in studies related to the brain.
A record number of students participated this year in the Medical College’s Medical Student Summer Research Program, which pairs first- and second-year students with a faculty mentor for a laboratory-based research experience. The program gives future doctors perspective on how new discoveries are translated into the tools and treatments of tomorrow.
Oct. 23 - Michelle A. Michel, MD, Professor of Radiology and Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences and Chief of Head and Neck Neuroradiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), was named president-elect of the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology during the society’s annual meeting in Miami, Fla. Dr. Michel previously served as vice president and chair of the society’s membership committee.
Sept. 26 - The Department of Radiology’s Division of Vascular & Interventional Radiology was awarded the Magna Cum Laude for its electronic poster presentation, Percutaneous in Utero Thoracoamniotic Shunt Creation for Congenital Lung Malformations: A Novel Technique, presented at the 2012 Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE) annual meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. The poster was a collaborative effort with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology’s Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Aug. 28 - Charles E. Kahn, Jr., MD, MS, Professor of Radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), and radiologist at Froedtert Hospital, was installed as president of the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the first and oldest radiology society in the United States.
Aug. 02 - Scientists from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Froedtert Hospital received a one-year, $20,000 grant from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin (CTSI) to investigate the use of personalized therapies to treat a common type of cancerous brain tumor, called glioblastoma multiforme.
On board a Naval vessel, Dr. Orlando L. Manfredi met his mentor, a man he is honoring with the establishment of a new endowed scholarship fund for medical student education. Dr. Manfredi built a significant radiology practice on Staten Island prior to his recent retirement.
The 99th annual commencement took place on May 18 at the Milwaukee Theatre, at which the Medical College of Wisconsin and its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences awarded 202 MD, 38 PhD, 27 MS, 4 MA, and 18 Master of Public Health degrees, as well as bestowed numerous honors.
June 05 - The longest serving medical school department chairman in the country, James E. Youker, MD, of the Medical College of Wisconsin has been honored with the creation of an endowed chair in his name.
