William F. Schneider, MD, an MCW alumnus from the class of 1960 and a retired orthopaedic surgeon, practiced in Green Bay his entire career. To this day, his former patients still seek him out to express their gratitude for his care.
“That reward is greater than any financial reward that you would ever get. That’s of course why we practice. We practice to care for people,” he said. Schneider recalls one former patient, whom he treated for scoliosis, who thanked him years after her surgery. “She told me she was so pleased with the outcome and has been able to go on to lead a full life including getting married and having children.”
Schneider wants future generations of medical students to experience that reward for themselves, and applauds MCW’s new regional campuses being developed in Green Bay and Central Wisconsin. “The goal of these new campuses is to teach students how to be good physicians, caring physicians -- that’s always number one on the list,” said Schneider.
“Having the MCW campus here is the beginning of a whole new era for medicine in Green Bay. It can only improve patient care. That’s what’s really important about the whole project. This endeavor has such far-reaching ramifications for the community,” he said. Schneider’s other hope is that the students’ immersive educational experiences at the new regional campuses will create lifelong bonds with the community, and that they will elect to live and practice where they’ve trained.
Schneider’s enthusiasm is matched by incredible support for the new campuses. Schneider and wife Sandy have contributed $500,000 to MCW-Green Bay. “Because of our love of medicine, we have to encourage this program. We have to support the medical school in every way we can, the best we can.”

Sustaining Quality Healthcare Today
AND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS OF PATIENTS AND FAMILIES
Your gift to the MCW Medical School is an investment in a healthier future for you, your family, and our communities. Whether it’s supporting scholarships, providing opportunities for students to work with our nationally recognized faculty researchers, or fostering an innovative curriculum with state-of-the-art medical technology, MCW donors are preserving quality healthcare for all of us.
The Impact of Your Giving
From their first days on campus, MCW students benefit from an educational program that provides early clinical experiences and access to the laboratories of federally funded investigators. Our faculty physicians lead a Discovery Curriculum that gives students the deep understanding of human biology and patient care they need to emerge as talented, compassionate doctors ready to treat patients and families.
You can be a part of their journey. Consider a gift supporting programs at our campuses in Milwaukee, Green Bay, or Central Wisconsin. Establish a scholarship fund. Or support a student research project. To donate today, click on one of the links below, visit MCW Giving or call (414) 955-4700.
