Student Support Services
Student Support Services assists students with a variety of activities ranging from student organizations to social events to personal concerns. The office also publishes a student directory and helps senior students with the production of their yearbook.
There are many ways for students to get involved at the Medical College. Leadership opportunities exist for any student who wishes to enhance his/her medical education. The student organizations on campus offer social, professional, leadership and community service opportunities to all students. These organizations sponsor many activities, including the Black Bag Ball, Variety Fest, and parties. There are also career-oriented programs. Community service projects offer many ways for students to give of their time and talents to others.
The Coordinator of Student Support Services works closely with the Student Assembly. The goals of the Student Assembly are to provide a forum that enables all students to express individual and/or collective concerns on any matter and to seek a resolution that is equitable and in the best interest of the student body as a whole. In addition, the voting student members act as stewards of the Student Activities fund.
Students also serve on standing committees of the Faculty Council, the College's system of faculty governance. As voting members, students bring an important and unique perspective to the work of these Faculty Assembly committees.
The Student Assembly also sponsors various recreational activities on campus. They support intramural volleyball, football, soccer and basketball teams. These teams play primarily at a nearby recreation center where discounted memberships are available to medical students. The Medical Education Building houses the Tonkens Exercise Center, which is available without charge to students.
