Annual MSTP Retreat
The MCW Medical Scientist Training Program Annual Retreat was held at the beautiful Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan, Wisconsin. This retreat is (1) a time for our students to relax together with select faculty and interact to address issues specific to the dual-degree trainee, (2) learn some science (of course), and last but not least (3) to socialize with fellow MSTP students.
Carol Williams, PhD
Professor, Pharmacology and Toxicology | Cardiovascular Pharmacology
Medical College of Wisconsin
Dr. Williams, this year's speaker, shared her expertise and thoughts in her well-received talk entitled "Finding Pieces of the Sky."
In addition, the Saturday breakout sessions included:
Joseph T. Barbieri, PhD "Mentors – How to Find One and be One"
Nita H. Salzman, MD, PhD "Working as a Physician Scientist in a Clinical Department, Positives and Challenges"
Erica Schmitt, PhD "Selecting and Interviewing for a Residency Program"
Chris Roberts, MD, PhD "Research During Residency"
Gilbert C. White, II, MD "Elevator Talks"
Carol Williams, PhD "How to Succeed in Graduate School"
We rounded out our retreat with a yoga session led by our own Jimmy Miller along with "Trivia Team Time" led by Mina Farahzad and assisted by Bryce Schuler.
The retreat provides trainees with an opportunity to strengthen friendships while dealing with topics that are pertinent to their career planning. We are definitely looking forward to the next one!
