Rolf Herrmann, PhD Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology Medical College of Wisconsin
Biographical Information
A major focus of the Herrmann lab aims to understand retinal function on a cellular and molecular level. He is particularly interested in the mechanisms governing retinal light adaptation, processing of temporal visual information and the pathology of the retina such as age-related macular degeneration. With his extensive training in biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics he has broad expertise in generating transgenic mouse models, analyzing retinal morphology at the light and electron microscopy level, and in conducting in vivo electrophysiology. The combination of these techniques enabled him to advance the understanding of retinal physiology by exploring novel mechanisms controlling photoreceptor synaptic output and regulating the light sensitivity of rod bipolar cells.
