Associate Professor of Medicine
Patient Care Emphases (Ages 18+):
Kidney stones.
His research interest is focused primarily on kidney stone disease. This research involves characterizing the influence of urinary macromolecules on various crystallization processes known to be important in stone formation. It includes parallel programs in studies of the differences or defects exhibited by urinary macromolecules isolated from stone formering patients compared those obtained from normal healthy adults and studies of the scientific principles controlling critical interactions between macromolecules and crystal surfaces that control crystallization processes, particularly for calcium oxalate crystals. He has helped focus the clinical care of stone disease through the opening of the Stone Clinic at Froedtert Hospital specifically targeting the treatment of stone forming patients.
