General adult psychiatrist joins Medical College of Wisconsin

June 15, 2009 College News - Mara Pheister, MD, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at The Medical College of Wisconsin and to the medical staff at Froedtert Hospital. A general psychiatrist, her clinical focus is on adult psychiatric care, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and women’s mental health.

Her patient care philosophy is to use a combination of psychotherapy and medication to help her patients regain some control over their illness. She is board-certified in adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Pheister comes to the Medical College from the Gurnee Counseling Center in Gurnee, Ill., where she was in private practice since 2004.

Dr. Pheister completed a psychoanalytic fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute in 2003, and an internship and residency in psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, in 2004. She received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 2000.
