Meet Carrie Kalata

BIOGRAPHY

Carrie Kalata is a certified and state licensed speech - language pathologist in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences, Center for Communication and Swallowing Disorders. Since coming to the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1996, Ms. Kalata has provided compassionate and individualized care while never losing sight of her patient's quality of life. She encourages her patients to actively participate in their own treatment and is a strong proponent of patient education. Although she treats a variety of disorders, Ms. Kalata specializes in facial paralysis, head and neck cancer, swallowing disorders, and voice problems. She has completed advanced training in the area of facial paralysis and was instrumental in establishing and continues to coordinate the Neuromuscular Facial Retraining Program.

Ms. Kalata has been actively involved in her state professional organization. She has been a member of the convention planning committee and has served on the Executive Board as Vice President of Education. Her commitment to continuing education is clearly demonstrated by the number of American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA) ACE awards she has achieved over the past several years.
