Global Health Week 2011

Global Health Week Flier


The inaugural Global Health Week at the Medical College of Wisconsin hosted over 725 learners of all levels, staff, faculty, community partners and health care professionals. Local and international programs that are addressing global health issues, Ambassador John Lange (Ret.), Senior Program Officer for Developing-Country Policy & Advocacy for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Global Health Program, Dr. Lars Bolund, Professor of Medical Genetics Aarhus University, Denmark and Adjunct Professor Human Genetics Copenhagen University, Denmark and Beijing Genomics Institute -Shenzhen (HuaDa JiYin), China from the Beijing Genomics Institute and Dr. William Stauffer Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Minnesota provided lectures and increased awareness of their global health activities.

  • Dr. William Stauffer, is an Associate Professor of infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota (UMN). He is clinical faculty in Infectious Diseases Health Partners/Regions Hospital where he works in the Center for International Health an International Travel Clinic providing travel medicine and refugee health.  In addition, he is a technical advisor to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Division of Global Health and Migration.

Household Item Collection for Refugee Resettlement to Milwaukee
November 28-December 2, 2011,
MCW Atrium, outside the MCW cafeteria and the entrance of the MACC Fund
Co-sponsored by the Students' Global Health Organization

  • Each year, hundreds of refugees seek safety and a chance at a better life in metro Milwaukee. Look for collection boxes to donate households items for refugees resettling to Milwaukee from Bhutan, Iraq, Somali and Sudan.

  • Suggested donation items to collection boxes located around MCW: silverware, cooking utensils, sheets, towels, hangers, shower curtain, cleaning supplies.

Global and Healthy Lunches
