of Orthopaedic Surgery
The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery’s vision is:
We will be the preferred orthopaedic practice in the region; our patients will experience the highest quality service and care from specialists who are recognized leaders in clinical outcomes, research and education.
This focuses on our three main missions: clinical practice, research and education.
We are proud of our highly-skilled clinicians in all disciplines in Orthopaedic Surgery, from Hand to Oncology, from Trauma to Reconstruction. We have begun to incorporate patient-reported outcomes into our electronic medical record, have established a Sarcoma Program with enviable results, and a Total Joint Center of Excellence which has made us competitive with the best centers in the US.
We have dedicated labs for Gait (Center for Motion Analysis,) Sports Motion Analysis, Pediatrics, Cell Biology, and Biomechanics and Materials; our faculty and Ph.D. scientists actively work together. We further collaborate with Marquette University, UW-Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. We also host 10-12 medical schools in research projects each year.
Our Residency Program is the crown jewel of the department, with 25 residents annually over the five-year program. The program has graduated surgical responsibility as well community rotation, and opportunity far and away for third-world elective. The faculty and residents have a very collegial relationship. Faculty is dedicated to teaching, and residents are eager learners.
Finally, the Department has community missions including the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Ballet, and Penfield Children’s Center among others. Our faculty members have worked with First Stage Children’s Theatre, local soccer organizations and many other community endeavors.
Welcome to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery!
