Dr. Jeffrey Schwab
to step down as Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery

I wish to share with you that Jeffrey P. Schwab, MD, Chair and Paul A. Jacobs, MD, Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, has informed me officially of his intention to step down from his role as Chair following 37 years of service to the Medical College of Wisconsin – 18 of which as Chair. Dr. Schwab also serves as Director of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. After leaving the Chair role, Dr. Schwab will remain at MCW as a full-time professor to continue his clinical practice, research and teaching endeavors.
Dr. Schwab has graciously agreed to remain in the Chair capacity during the search for his successor. A Chair Search Committee will be named shortly.
Dr. Schwab received his MD from the University of Minnesota in 1971 and interned at Milwaukee County General Hospital. Dr. Schwab practiced family medicine in Watertown, Wisconsin for two years and then completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He joined MCW as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1978 and became a full professor in 1992. Dr. Schwab served as Interim Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery from 1996-97 and was named permanent Chair of the Department in 1997.
Dr. Schwab currently is on the active medical-dental staff at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and senior attending physician at Froedtert Hospital. Dr. Schwab's practice includes general orthopaedics, acute and reconstructive fracture surgery, leg lengthening, and cerebral palsy. His awards and honors include the MCW Society of Teaching Scholars and Outstanding Teacher - Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Since 1996, he has been listed in both Milwaukee Magazine's Top Doctors Guide and Best Doctors in America.
Dr. Schwab has served on numerous MCW committees and was president of the Milwaukee Orthopaedic Society from 1993-1996.

Dr. Jeffrey P. Schwab became Chairman of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department in 1997. He received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Minnesota in 1971, interned at Milwaukee County General Hospital and practiced family medicine in Watertown, WI for two years.
He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, joined the Orthopaedic Surgery Department as assistant professor in 1978, and was named professor in 1992. In 1988, he served as a fellow in AO trauma at the University Hospital in Basel, Switzerland.
Dr. Schwab's practice includes general orthopaedics, acute and reconstructive fracture surgery, leg lengthening, and cerebral palsy.
Dr. Schwab is currently on the active medical-dental staff at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and senior attending at Froedtert Hospital. His awards and honors include MCW Society of Teaching Scholars (1991) and Outstanding Teacher - Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (1983 & 1989).
Active in numerous professional organizations, Dr. Schwab has served on committees for the Milwaukee Orthopaedic Society since 1989 and served as president from 1993-1996.
Dr. Schwab, named as the first Paul A. Jacobs, MD Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery endowed Chairman in October of 2008, has been listed in Milwaukee Magazine's Top Doctors Guide 2012 and M Magazine's Top Doctors 2013. He has also been listed as one the Best Doctors in America for 2014.
