A series of breathing tests are conducted to evaluate a patient's lung function.

Pulmonary stress testing and evaluation of exercise capabilities are also conducted for disability evaluation, for persons who are beginning an exercise program, and to monitor certain diseases and responses to therapy.

Testing for Sleep Apnea
A patient suspected of having sleep apnea is monitored overnight in an inpatient unit or, in some cases, in the patient's own home.

Bronchoscopy
A variety of lung diseases can be diagnosed using a flexible fiberoptic scope to visualize the bronchial passages and obtain material for further study. This procedure can usually be performed as an outpatient.
