Preliminary Year

The Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin are pleased to offer two positions in a preliminary internship in Pediatrics. This
one-year position is available for candidates who require a preliminary year before entering another residency program.

Previous preliminary residents have entered the following residencies after their preliminary year:

  • Dermatology

  • Anesthesiology

  • OB/Gyn

  • Neurology

  • PM&R

  • Radiology

  • Ophthalmology

The curriculum and experience is identical to that of a PL-1 categorical resident except for the continuity clinic experience. For continuity clinic, the preliminary residents are encouraged to spend a half day per week in the clinic or major clinical setting of their field.  Residents in all fields have found the experience to be extremely valuable in their future specialties.

For more information, please contact Dr. Mike Weisgerber, Pediatric Residency Program Director. We are excited by the opportunity to provide you with a preliminary experience focused on pediatrics as you prepare for your career in medicine.
