Welcome
It is our pleasure to introduce you to the Medical College of Wisconsin/Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Pediatric Residency Training Program Website. We are very proud of our program, and we are glad to have the opportunity to share it with you.
We believe that our program very successfully combines all of the elements which make up the ideal pediatric residency training program. The educational curriculum is structured to provide experiences of breadth and depth in all areas of pediatrics to all residents, while allowing residents the time and support to pursue their individual interests, whether that is in primary care community pediatrics, pediatric hospital medicine, global health, or academic subspecialty pediatrics.
We have world-class faculty, with multiple outstanding clinicians, award-winning educators, and many consistently NIH-funded basic and clinical research physician-scientists. The pediatric faculty includes recognized national leaders in pediatrics, including the editors of two of the most widely-read, major pediatric textbooks.
Our residents work in state-of- the- art facilities which include a recent hospital expansion completed in 2009, the Children’s Research Institute, a world-renowned Heart Center, and a fully-equipped Simulation Center. The hospital has been rated by Parents’ magazine in 2009 as the 3rd best children’s hospital in the country and the #1 children’s hospital in the Midwest. It is the primary community pediatric hospital for all of the children of Southeast Wisconsin; it is the primary referral center for much of the state of Wisconsin and northern Illinois; and it also receives patients from across the country and internationally for specific subspecialty care.
Most importantly, we recruit great people and great physicians to our program. We have an outstanding group of dedicated, hard-working, and compassionate residents who provide the best care to their patients and who consistently support each other. Great, life-long friendships begin to develop among our residents and their families on the first day of orientation. We have a culture that believes that it is imperative that residents have plenty of time to enjoy family, friends, and life outside the hospital, that residents have significant input into the future direction of the program, and that the unique needs and career aspirations of each individual resident are encouraged and supported. Our residents leave us extremely well-prepared to join community practices, join hospitalists groups, or enter fellowships. Our graduates obtain positions in the most competitive practices and fellowships in the country.
Milwaukee is also a wonderful city with multiple recreational opportunities, a vibrant nightlife, excellent suburbs and schools, and a place where residents can afford houses and a higher quality lifestyle than in many other cities. Great restaurants, music, festivals, professional sports, and outdoor recreation have resulted in Milwaukee being a very attractive city for young professionals, families, and couples. Our residents certainly enjoy themselves with their time off, and have no shortage of things to do outside the hospital.
We hope that you enjoy exploring the rest of our site, where you will find additional information regarding our curriculum, advocacy and research opportunities, global health opportunities, social activities, benefits, our city, and our commitment to work-life balance. We are convinced that our program has everything you would be looking for in a residency training program, and that it provides outstanding education and training in a supportive environment where education is a priority. Please contact any one of us directly by phone or e-mail if we can be of additional help.
