Why Public and Community Health?

There are currently no other PhD programs in public and community health in Wisconsin. Students will have the opportunity to participate in an innovative program that is ideally located in a large urban area and provides a dynamic laboratory for important original research, independent study, and fieldwork.

Prominent members of the community will teach or present guest lectures at MCW, participate in conferences, and give students connections to the professional world. PhD students will acquire skills and real-world experience in their area of interest, enhancing their professional employability, while pursuing an advanced degree.

The PhD Program in Public and Community Health prides itself on its collaborative nature, academic rigor and focus on community health improvement. There are many opportunities to work with faculty and research staff in the MCW Centers and other projects.

Students also have the opportunity to take electives at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) and Marquette University and conduct research in collaboration faculty from other institutions of higher learning which further enhances the program.
