Student Study Spaces

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) provides an educational experience that helps physicians, scientists, pharmacists and health professionals of tomorrow discover their potential and true calling in healthcare. In addition to state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, we offer students group and individual spaces to enhance their studies.

Our Milwaukee campus features both formal and informal study areas to meet the varying needs of our students. Types of spaces include:

  • Conference rooms
    Space with table and chairs for individuals and/or groups. Many rooms include monitors, network connection, electrical cord and outlets, and whiteboard.
  • Classroom/lecture halls
    Educational activity space for regularly occurring courses, seminars, etc. Available for group study when not otherwise in use or reserved.
  • Open study areas
    Accessible spaces with limited partitions and a variety of seating options including couches, reading chairs, banquette seating and high-top tables.  
  • Individual study carol/stacks
    Areas in the Todd Wehr Library intended for independent use.
  • Private study rooms
    Single user areas used for quiet independent study by one student at a time. 

Study spaces on the Milwaukee campus are located in:

  • Health Research Center (HRC)
    The HRC is the main campus building and is the main entrance to the facility. The Medical Education Building (MEB) is connected to the west. The Todd Wehr Library, central location of the MCW Libraries, is in the HRC. Branch libraries of the MCW Libraries are at Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. All are located on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center (MRMC), and they are accessible through skywalks.   
  • Medical Education Building (MEB)
    The MEB is the most centrally located building. It is located to the west of the HRC, to the east of MACC Fund Research Building and Basic Science Building and to the south of the Translational and Biomedical Research Center (TBRC).
  • Translational and Biomedical Research Center (TBRC)
    The TBRC is located to the north of the MEB. Individuals can enter the TBRC through the TBRC connector from the basement, 1st, 3rd, and 4th floor of MEB.

Study space at our Milwaukee campus is available to students 24/7.  MCW is a secure facility and doors to the main campus remain secured from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am weekdays and at all times on weekends and holidays. Students can use their MCW badge to gain access after-hours.

Open study areas, individual study carrel/stacks and private study rooms are first-come, first-served.

Access is restricted above the 3rd floor in the Hub for Collaborative Medicine after business hours and on weekends/holidays.

Conference rooms and classroom/lecture halls are open to students when not otherwise in use or reserved. Students organizations have the ability to reserve conference rooms and classroom/lecture halls for events quickly through the Resource Scheduling System (EMS). MCW Media Services provides student organizations with login information.

The Todd Wehr Library staffed/public hours are:

  • Monday – Friday: 7:30 am-6:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am-4:00 pm

Students have 24/7 MCW Badge Access to the Todd Wehr Library.
