Biography

Dr. Nicolosi specializes in adult heart surgery. He performs coronary artery bypass (CABG) and transmyocardial LASER revascularization for coronary artery disease. He performs the full range of heart valve surgery, including mitral valve repair and minimally invasive valve surgery. He is the director of heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at Froedtert Hospital, and performs a variety of operations for heart failure, including heart transplant, ventricular restoration (Dor procedure), and implantation of left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) for either “bridge to transplant” or “destination therapy.” He has a strong interest in surgery for aortic diseases including aneurysm and dissection, particularly those that occur in patients with connective tissue diseases such as Marfan’s, and he is a member of the thoracic aortic stent graft team. He also performs the Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation. His research focuses on the role of stretch and stretch-activated ion channels in cardiac contractile function.
