Alumni Association-Sponsored
Programs for Students

Career Interest Program

We have been told by many students that there is a real need to "see the light at the end of the tunnel." Career planning ideas for life after medical school are not always clearly identified during the student years. By association and contact with practicing alumni in the community, students might develop clearer ideas concerning the type of specialty they would like to practice. Alumni in southeastern Wisconsin who have volunteered to be a part of this program can show their pride as an alumnus of the Medical College of Wisconsin and their desire to assist students in their career planning.

Host-A-Senior Program

Interviewing for a residency is a busy, stressful and expensive time for any medical student. The alumni from across the country who have volunteered to be a part of the Host-A-Senior Program are willing to house a student to save them that expense and give the student some tips about the community.

Applicant Host Program

During each school year, current medical students host prospective students who are visiting the campus for the admissions interview process. The Alumni Association provides funding for transportation to and from the airport as well as providing a stipend for medical students who host the prospective students.

Resident Event

Each year the Alumni Association sponsors a night out for residents and their spouses/guests. This group of future alumni, as most physicians will attest to, have a very hectic schedule and this night away from their busy training is truly appreciated.

M-1 Picnic

The hope of the Alumni Association is to make contact with the students as soon as they arrive on campus. For this reason, the Association sponsors the very first social event for the new students, the picnic held for students and their families during orientation week.

Senior Yearbook

A yearbook helps keep the memories of medical school and the many wonderful friendships alive forever. To assist the senior medical students with their yearbook, the Alumni Association helps underwrite the book.

Graduate School Research Day and Poster Contest

This two-day event highlights the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and gives the students a chance to display the research projects they are working on. The activity includes a lunch for the students with a presentation by a nationally-recognized research scientist. The Alumni Association funds this activity because the Association feels it is important to support the efforts of Graduate School students.

Mentor Program

The Mentor Program gives the children of alumni who are interested in attending the Medical College an opportunity to talk with a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and hear about the College from the perspective of an alumnus.

Student Loan Fund

The Alumni Association, working with the Financial Aid Office, established a low-interest loan fund for senior medical students.

Student/Alumni Committee

The Student/Alumni Committee is a committee of the Student Assembly and works with the Alumni Association on the Association's programs for students. In 1996, the Association opened a spot on the board of directors for the president of the student assembly.
