Nov 20 - A total of 370 Medical College of Wisconsin faculty physicians, representing more than 40 specialties, are listed on the Best Doctors in America 2009 -2010 database. The information, compiled by Best Doctors, Inc., includes more physicians from the Medical College than any other group practice or institution in Wisconsin.
Oct 16 - Tom P. Aufderheide, MD, an internationally recognized researcher in the field of emergency cardiac care at The Medical College of Wisconsin, was one of 65 people in the United States and five foreign associates elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.
May 24 - Drs. Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern have given The Medical College of Wisconsin a $10 million gift, the largest single private gift in the school’s history, to develop an innovation center that will advance biomedical research, education and collaboration to benefit the entire southeastern Wisconsin region for years to come.

July 14 - The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced today it has awarded a $20 million grant to The Medical College of Wisconsin, representing a consortium of eight Milwaukee institutions to create a Milwaukee-wide research partnership that shares a common vision, resources and staff to advance biomedical research, patient care and education.

2011
November 18 - Following a national search, Joseph E. Kerschner, MD, has been appointed dean of the medical school and executive vice president of the Medical College of Wisconsin. The appointment was made by John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, President and CEO, pending approval of the Medical College’s Board of Trustees on November 18. Dr. Kerschner will oversee medical education, research, patient care, and community engagement. He will continue as professor of otolaryngology and communication sciences.
October 6 - The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse, Inc. (WBCS) has announced the establishment of both an endowed professorship and a research laboratory in breast cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. A nationally-recognized scientist, who is being actively recruited, will conduct research at the Medical College’s newly-named The WBCS Laboratory for Breast Cancer Research. The scientist will hold The WBCS Professorship of Breast Cancer Research.
September 22 - Peter Layde, MD, MSc, professor of emergency medicine, associate chair for global and public health, and co-director of the Injury Research Center, has been named the first Ombudsman of The Medical College of Wisconsin. The role of an Ombuds is to serve as a confidential, impartial and informal resource for faculty, staff physicians, postdoctoral fellows and staff with whom to voice concerns. The Ombuds also provides information on institutional policies and practices, assists in examining alternatives and solutions and identifies proper resources to help resolve situations.
September 21 - Daniel J. DeBehnke, MD, professor of emergency medicine and associate chief medical officer of the Medical College Physicians Group, has been named the chief clinical integration officer at The Medical College of Wisconsin.
August 11 - The Medical College of Wisconsin has received a five-year, $13 million grant to establish a National Center for Systems Biology.
August 4 - Colleen A. F. Lawton, M.D., professor of radiation oncology at The Medical College of Wisconsin, was chosen by her peers as the president-elect of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
June 24 - Roy L. Silverstein, MD, has been appointed Chairman and the Linda and John Mellowes Professor in Medicine at The Medical College of Wisconsin. Joseph E. Kerschner, MD, Interim Dean and Executive Vice President of the College, made the appointment. Dr. Silverstein also will join the medical staff as Chief of Medicine at Froedtert Hospital, a major affiliate of the College.
