Dr. Aufderheide Elected to Institute of Medicine

Oct 16 - Tom P. Aufderheide, MD, an internationally recognized researcher in the field of emergency cardiac care at The Medical College of Wisconsin, was one of 65 people in the United States and five foreign associates elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

Dr. John Raymond Named President and CEO of The Medical College of Wisconsin

4-28 John R. Raymond, MD, vice president for academic affairs and provost of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), has been named president and CEO of The Medical College of Wisconsin. Linda T. Mellowes, chairman of the Medical College’s Board of Trustees, announced that Dr. Raymond will assume office as the Medical College’s sixth president on July 1, 2010.

Dr. Joseph Kerschner Appointed Dean of the Medical College of Wisconsin

November 18 - Following a national search, Joseph E. Kerschner, MD, has been appointed dean of the medical school and executive vice president of the Medical College of Wisconsin. The appointment was made by John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, President and CEO, pending approval of the Medical College’s Board of Trustees on November 18. Dr. Kerschner will oversee medical education, research, patient care, and community engagement. He will continue as professor of otolaryngology and communication sciences.

Otolaryngologist Michael McCormick joins MCW faculty, CHW staff

December 12 - Michael E. McCormick, MD, has been appointed assistant professor of otolaryngology and communication sciences (pediatric otolaryngology) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

Psychiatrist Kathleen Koth joins MCW faculty, CHW staff

December 11 - Kathleen A. Koth, DO, has been appointed assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral medicine (child and adolescent psychiatry) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

Researchers at MCW and CHW to study environmental health in the Alto Mayo rainforest

December 10 - A research team at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin received a two-year grant from the National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), to identify environmental health needs and opportunities in the remote, heavily deforested Alto Mayo rainforest on the eastern edge of the Andes Mountains in northern Peru.

MCW Identifies Facility Sites in Green Bay, Central Wisconsin

November 19 - On Friday, November 16, 2012, the Medical College of Wisconsin’s (MCW) Board of Trustees authorized MCW’s leadership to begin contract negotiations for program site locations in the Green Bay and Central Wisconsin regions for MCW’s community-based medical education programs.

Dr. Diane Braza Appointed Chair of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at MCW

November 8 - Diane W. Braza, MD, associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation and associate professor of neurosurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), has been named chairman of MCW’s department of physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Register Now for Moving Forward: Ride/Walk for Parkinson’s Disease

September 14 - The fourth annual Moving Forward: Ride/Walk for Parkinson’s Disease will be held Sunday, October 7, in Dousman, Wis. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit Parkinson’s patient and family education and support, community exercise programs and research through the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Program at Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin.

Conference Looks at Strategies to Improve Health of Wisconsin

September 14 - The Medical College of Wisconsin’s (MCW) Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Program (AHW) and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health’s Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP) will sponsor an inaugural joint conference to highlight initiatives aimed at dealing with Wisconsin’s most challenging public health issues.

Medical College to begin Development Phase for Green Bay, Central Wisconsin Campuses

June 25 - The Medical College of Wisconsin’s (MCW) Board of Trustees has authorized MCW’s leadership to enter into the development phase of establishing two community-based medical education campuses in Wisconsin.

Medical College of Wisconsin Unveils “Discovery Curriculum”

February 27 - The Medical College is making major changes to its curriculum, the hallmarks of which will be the earlier integration of patient observation for medical students, a year-long foundational program, and a full year of symptom- and system-based units of education to ensure grounding in the basic sciences.

MCW Trustees authorize exploration of statewide community-based medical education program

February 1 - The Medical College of Wisconsin has begun to explore the development of a statewide community-based medical education program to address Wisconsin’s pending physician shortage. The Medical College’s Board of Trustees authorized the College’s administration to conduct feasibility analyses of placing community-based medical school components in one or more regions throughout Wisconsin.
