De Pere High School graduate Adam Ludvigson is serving a one-year term as president of the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Student Assembly. Ludvigson is a third-year medical student and a recipient of the Stavri and Olga Joseph Scholarship, given to a student who shows exceptional service to MCW and the community.
As president, Ludvigson is responsible for more than 50 members of the government organization, which facilitates constructive and consistent communication between the student body, faculty and administration.
Richard Holloway, PhD, associate dean of MCW student affairs and associate chair of the department of family and community medicine, serves as administrative liaison to the assembly. He says Ludvigson brings an impressive amount of experience, maturity and perspective to the presidency.
“Adam is a superb student with a keen understanding of the world outside medical school,” said Dr. Holloway. “He has an enthusiasm that inspires students to step up and get engaged.”
Ludvigson previously held a leadership role with MCW’s Family Medicine Student Association, which promotes the values and philosophy of family medicine to students and the outside community. He says family medicine is just one of several fields of study he is considering.
“Once I decide on a specialty, I don’t know where it will take me,” Ludvigson said. “But it would be nice to stay in Wisconsin. Our state desperately needs more physicians, especially primary care doctors.”
Ludvigson earned a BA in biology from St. Olaf College and an MA in anatomy and neurobiology from Boston University.
